Solid-liquid phase behavior of eutectic solvents containing sugar alcohols

چکیده
Mixtures of carbohydrates are often reported in the literature as deep eutectic solvents yet, most cases, their solid–liquid phase diagrams poorly characterized and no evidence is available to validate this classification. In work, binary systems composed sugar alcohols mannitol or maltitol meso-erythritol, xylitol, sorbitol, were experimentally determined. The results obtained reveal that these have a thermodynamic ideal behavior, questioning classification showing intermolecular hydrogen bonding between components mixture not sufficient condition prepare solvents. cholinium chloride also measured work. sharp contrast mixtures solely by alcohols, unlike numerous other choline-based literature, revealed significant deviations ideality, leading melting temperature depressions. Cl-OH interaction identified main reason for paving way rational choice bond acceptors

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have received attention in various applications because of their distinctive properties. In this work, DESs were used as functionalizing agents for graphene due to their potential to introduce new functional groups and cause other surface modifications. Eighteen different types of ammonium- and phosphonium-salt-based DESs were prepared and characterized by FTIR. Th...
